Shoe Policy
In PE, safety is always first. This is why I ask each student to come prepared for class with appropriate footwear. Wearing the wrong shoes not only impacts the way students participate in PE but they also damage the gymnasium floor. Boots, sandals, flip-flops, slip-ons, and dress shoes will get in the way of simple activities such as running, stretching, jumping, and stopping.
OK for PE - Footwear must have a non-slippery rubber bottom, provide ankle support, cover the whole front/back of the foot, and must have an adjustable strap, laces, or velcro. Examples include: tennis shoes, basketball shoes, cross trainers, running shoes, etc.

NOT OK for PE - Dress shoes (of any kind), boots, sandals, open-toe shoes, slip-ons (toms, vans, crocs, etc), and shoes that tie but do not provide any ankle support.
Lace Them Up!
Untied shoes is a safety issue. In PE, we are constantly on the move and rarely have time to stop and tie shoes. Please work with your child at home and practice lacing up their shoes. This is a developmentally appropriate skill for all ages. Time lost tying shoes is PE time lost!
Consequences
1st occurrence - Student will be reminded to bring appropriate shoes to PE, daily grade will not be deducted, and student will be allowed to participate as long as he/she has socks.
After the grace offense, students will lose daily points and will not be able to participate in activities for the day. A note, email, or phone call will be made to you if the student continues to bring inappropriate shoes.
Clothing
Because of the amount of time slotted for PE class, I am not requiring a certain dress code (except for the dress code in the student handbook). I strongly discourage skirts and dresses, but if worn, students must understand that 100% participation is still expected.
